Ok Here we go...

So today January 17th at 4:30 pm I have decided enough is enough! I am going to get the weight off and the only way I can do this is hold nothing back. So lets start with the facts...

Weight 245 ooohh that hurt!!

Height: 5 7inches

Age: 30

Daily life: Work, home, work, home, work...walmart...and home.

So the way this works. You suggest what I eat, drink, exercise and give me tips on how to stay motivated. I am embarrassed but more so my health is declining. I have got to take control! I am all ears and I am open...give it to me straight!

Firstly, you need to invest in some kind of at home workout tape or invest in a gym membership where they have a gym for your daughter can play!

Soror Sonja:
This is Tatianna. I recently lost 29 lbs...this is what I did:

I used the Slim-Fast plan (www.slim-fast.com ) It is more than just shakes and starving yourself to death on liquids. It is meal bars...shakes..waters...entire low cal meal plans. That helped to jump start my metabolism and in a matter of 3 months..I had lost about 10 lbs. I felt great..........it was slow and steady.

In addition to that..I did the following:

1) I hardly got on my scale (That is Rule 1...dont even weigh yourself obsessively). I wasn't into all those measurements of my waist and neck and junk...(if that works for you so be it)...I knew I was losing when my clothes felt different.

2) Increased my water intake to at least 64 oz a day. I am not a big water drinker so I'd use the Crysal Light packs (and now the Special K protein waters) to make myself drink water

3) I did cardio (elliptical or Comcast On-Demand excercise TV) 3-4 times a week at a minimum of 45 minutes per session

4) On the Days I didn't have cardio....I used resistance bands and The Bean (its the thing they sell on TV..like a curved excercise ball..). And they worked

5) I reduced my caloric intake for the day to 1000-1200 calories a day. That isnt hard when you think about it.....

6) This one was hard..If it is WHITE..It ain't right.Meaning..I didnt eat much refined sugars, sweets, enriched bread, flour products, semolina pasta salt...I ate whole grain pasta and rices for the most part. And this is hard cause I LOVE pasta and white rice so much.......and def. watched that sodium!

7) I rarely fried anything (and Popeye's is a weakness..so I guess me and Bey got something in common). I would oven fry my chicken or bake it with savory herbs and spices.

8) I ate two snacks a day..and I never felt hungry. I made sure when I ate..my plate was full of vegetables (there were days where I would make a smoothie and salad and was cool)...and meat was only about HALF the side of my hand. The only animals I would induldge on would be seafood.

9) Dairy is actually helpful when dieting. They say 24 oz a day helps to loose weight.BUT..I cant control eating rich cheese sauces and stuffed pasta dishes with cheese. So I just limited my intake to yogurt, soy milk, and reduced fat milk. To supplement, I take a multivitamin (it's actually a pre-natal cause it has ALL the good stuff I need at this age...) and Vitamin E (studies show that taking Vitamin E reduced belly fat! I can attest to this...)

10) I LOVE chocolate..so to reward myself for a good work out...I would have ONE treat of chocolate a week. (This is hard for a chick that used to have a daily Kit Kat fix...........)

11) When I go out to eat, I always end up boxing HALF my food up and cut my portions down (I mean..my fav spot is Cheesecake Factory..now way in HELL could I eat all that food...) OR share my food (now that's easier with my mother or a female than my husband...LOL) Instead of fries (at a restuaruant), I'd do a side salad, steamed veggies, or baked potato....( I was never that big into fries no way!) And Liqour IS Empty Calories..so I rarely drank (Actually..I dont remember having but 3 drinks all year)

12) Take the stairs..EVERYWHERE! I at least try and take them at work..and now I dont complain when my husband parks too far from the mall (LOL)

13) Most importantly..I READ! I mean a lot..I got Dr. Ian's book."Fat Smash Diet"....."YOu: On a Diet" by Dr. Mehmet Oz..."The Best Life Diet" by Bob Green...I also got some Low Calorie cook books....I also got a support group going on SparkPeople (www.sparkpeople.com) called "The Slim Down Sista Challenge". Sparkpeople is great to measure calories and get support..esp. from other African American women my exact age, height, weight.

In a nutshell..that's it. Granted it sounds hard..but I really didn't deprive myself. If I wanted Fried Chicken..I ate it. But I worked my butt off afterwards.

I kinda knew I was dropping weight when I was out with my soror..and she told me that I had "saggy booty syndrome" going on with my pants. I was like..OMG! For real.... I was still wearing size 14 jeans......(I aint got no money to buy no new jeans! Plus..GOOD jeans are COSTLY!). Then folks at work were asking had I been sick (LOL)...or was I dropping weight. That is when I said "Ok..NOW I gotta weigh myself."

In about 8 months..I went from near 180 lbs to 157 lbs. I went from a size 14 to a size 10.... I feel great! I still have a long (well..kinda long) way to go before I hit my goal of 130 lbs.

Look..If I can do it (and I can be straight LAZY)..I know others can too. Get involved! Get a support system...(I had my husband for the most part working out with me and friends). Dont go the sucka way out with diet pills, surgery, and gastric (I mean unless you NEED gastric and are morbidly obese........).

Aiight?? Dat's it. Really..it aint no secret! LOL....it is DIRTY though! Real dirty, hard work

The no Cardio Diet is a GREAT plan it took inches off of me in just two weeks and in 8 weeks I felt so much better about my body because instead of beign a smaller pear I wasn't a pear anymore. The great part is that while yes it's a calorie restrictive diet, every twi weeks you increase your calorie intake as you increase your weight training and NO CARDIO!!!! Which is great, you use had weights and exercise bands for just 20 short minutes three days a week. It's easy to follow and it will change the shape of your body!

Best wishes sweetie!

Hi Sonja Carl here.
First of all happy new year to you. Its not too late I guess, 11 more months to go. Well, congratulations to you for taking the bold step and decide to do something about your weight. There is a product called reset which like the slim fast Tatianna talked about helps you jump start your metabolism, but the initial weight loss with Reset is about 6-10 lbs within the first week! I think you should give it a try. Will send you more info. Good luck and great first step.

Well, i have also vested a more serious look into my health and weight as well. What i have done was drink lots and lots and LOTS of WATER!! Yeah, i have a lil 32 oz cup that i fill with water, and i drink at least 6 of those a day. I notice that i am in the bathroom alot, but i guess thats water weight leaving me. I also have started running a mile at night and no food after 9pm. Also, and this is tha hard part for me, because i eat so much on tha run, i COUNT CALORIES!! No, its realistic though. I mean, i have decided to not eat beef until probably the summer, and thats only gonna be at a BBQ. But portion control is another thing i am working on. Lets see, no sugar, no salts, and a decent work out. My running at night gets my cardio, but i started at tha gym, hit the elyptical machine for like 25minutes and then hit the weights. I should drop at least 20lbs by April if i can hold strong and stay focused, so can you.
